Canasta was invented in Uruguay in the 1940s, became a very popular card game in the USA, and by the 1950s reached craze proportions in Britain. It stretches the memory, practises the often unused skill of mental arithmetic, is brilliant for keeping the brain alert and great fun.
Canasta can be played with two, three, four, five or even six people using two or three packs of cards. The aim of the game is to score points by "making canastas".
We are always pleased to welcome those out of practice, those who haven't played for a while, or anyone who wishes to learn from scratch - rules are provided.
